National Highways in India are the lifeline of the coutry's road network, enabling seamless connectivity across states. They drive economic growth, enhance trade, support defense movement, boost tourism and ensure regional development.
India has the second longest road network in the world, at about 63.32 lakh km (2022-23). The total length of the road network in India was around 4 lakh km in 1991. This means that in the last 30 years, around 40 lakh km of roads were constructed.
